Seabiscuit was an unlikely champion: rough, undersized and with crooked knees. He troubled trainers and owners until he was purchased by Charles Howard, a former bicycle repairman who made a fortune by bringing the automobile to the American West. After he bought Seabiscuit at a bargain price, he engaged a failed prizefighter and failing jockey, and a mustang breaker to work with Seabiscuit. The three of them uncovered the true horse and Seabiscuit became an icon. Photographs Indexed 399 Pgs. 2002
